Paraig MacNeill

Photo of Paraig Paraig MacNeill is a Highland tradition-bearer in Gaelic and English. He tells the epic tales of the Fianna, clan legends and histories, wonder and supernatural tales, comic tales, riddles and place name stories. His storytelling is interwoven with Gaelic song, of which he is a passionate exponent.

Paraig's style of storytelling is suitable for schools, community venues and festivals. He is a natural entertainer, combining seriousness and humour, and his authentic Highland dress gives his telling dramatic presence.

Paraig was born in 1955 and brought up in a Highland family settled in Perthshire. His great uncle was a seanchaidh and he has early memories of being bivouacked on the floor as an infant during family ceilidhs. Seven years of experience have honed Paraig's commitment to the lore and language of the Highlands and to his vocation as a storyteller.

Pariag MacNeill is a founder member of the Scottish Storytelling Forum and its Gaelic Committee. He is registered as s storyteller with the Scottish Arts Council's "Writers in Public/Schools" Scheme and appears regularly in festivals at home and overseas.
