Alison Millen tells folktales, legends, fairy stories, comic and supernatural stories, Traveller tales and stories for children. She also plays the penny whistle and sings a repertoire of humorous Scots songs.
Alison has performed in a wide range of venues but she is consistently comfortable telling to children in schools, libraries and community centres. Her aim is always to tell an appropriate story to the best of her ability.
Alison was born in Glasgow in 1960 and draws stories from her family and community roots. However, it was through apprenticeship to the stories and style of the Traveller storyteller Duncan Williamson that Alison learned her craft and her enthusiasm.
Alison Millen is registered as a storyteller with the Scottish Arts Councils "Writers in Public" Scheme, and has participated in storytelling festivals at home and overseas.
