The person who mentioned the twa races; them wha's scottish and them wha,d like tae be; i think your spot on! For all of those people who requested we recommend places for them to visit, I recommend the Isle of Iona, which appears to have been overlooked throughout these comments. Trish <FQGM87A@Prodigy.Com> Seattle, WA USA - Found this site by accident while looking for information on the sexy hunk of man that played Robert the Bruce in Braveheart. This page looked almost as good as Bruce. miriam sydney, australia - When I was in the US Air Force stationed at RAF Upper Heyford, Oxon between 1968 and 1972, I had a number of opportunities to visit Scotland, and have returned twice since then, the last time in 1983 on my honeymoon. Stewart McDonald <mcdonaldjohnson@tdn.com> Longview, WA US - Pretty impresive stuff you have here Im a student trying to learn how to do Web pages Lorraine Nic Fhionghuin Skye, UK - I am a voice teacher and have a student with a deep desire to learn gaelic folk songs. We have been unsuccessful finding anything around here. She is from Cape Breton and does not read gaelic, so any written music must have phonetic pronounciation. We are looking for music with piano accompaniment. Most music we found only contains a vocal line without harmonies. Do you think you could help? Susan Dworkin-Mac Innis <macinnis@glinx.com> Wolfville, N.S. Canada - Hi there, your Gael-net pages were a tremendous help in planning and organizing our 1997 summer holiday. I didn't expect you were that far in using modern techniques. All in all your set of home pages - from accomodation thru travel - raised a tremendous 'pre-joy' to what will come in a few months Luisa & Ullrich Sattes <Sattes@t-online.de> Marienmuenster, D - We have stayed several times on Skye and have found that one of the most beautiful spots there is the unlikely named Uig. We have stayed with Mrs. Pam Mackenzie on those occasions and recommend her hospitality as the best we have encountered in our various stays in Scotland as a whole. At 15 pounds/person, her home and breakfasts are a real deal. Also, we are swapping houses with a couple in Edinburgh for three months in the spring of 1997. Since we want to travel to Skye and the Outer Islands, we have rented a car. But, the people with whom we are swapping houses contend that we will find no place to park our car in Edinburgh and conclude that having a rental car for trips outside of Edinburgh is an impossibility. They have not offered suggestions for dealing with finding sensible ways to park a car in Edinburgh. Any suggestions? Robin Matthews <wmatthew@knox.edu> Berkeley, Ca US - Great web sight! My wife and I were in Scotland in 1991. We are returning this summer with our son who graduates from college in May. During ou first trip we stayed at a B&B in Kelso. This was the best placed we found during our entire trip. The name of the B&B was Wooden. Can anyone tell us if this is still a B&B? We are having trouble finding information about it. Thanks. We are staying for three weeks this time. Love the country and it.s people. Bruce MacInnis <macin@GREENNET.net> Salisbury, MA USA - With one word: excellent! We stayed for two nights at Harry´s Hotel in the blue house on the pier ( spectacular view!). I understand that my grandfather (whom I never knew) came from Scotland, and that one of our ancestors was the laird of Balneil in Ross. My family tree is traced back to William Ross of Kinglassie who married Margaret Robertson October 19 1717. Thence it is Patrick Ross (Nov 1722) m. Margaret Anderson -> David Ross (1762-1838) m. Elizabeth Forret -> David Ross (1804-67) proprietor & editor of the Liverpool Chronicle m. Elizabeth Mutch -> Henry Lawrence Ross, a brewer, (b.1838) m Sarah Elvis then m.Elizabeth McLeavy -> Douglas Lawrence Benjamin Ross (1866-1941). This is my grandfather who emigrated to Australia and m. Elizabeth Herron. My father is George Elvis Ross (b.1911) and I am Richard Ross b.1952) During WWII, my father was stationed in the U.K. and went on a few days leave to Ross, and met up with some relatives there. I would love to do the same! Am I hoping for too much? I would at least like to visit Balneil (the family story goes that it was sold to Arabs) and Kinglassie. I have recently started researching my families history (Mac Donalds) and found that they came from a village called Eilean Shona on the small island of Moidart, Scotland. I have not been able to find any information on this village or island. I was hoping that maybe somebody who lives in this area, or somebody who has traveled there, would share some information with me; what the village is like, places to see, are there people still living on the island, is it access- able to public visitors? I look forward to hearing from you all. Thank you. Suzanne Nichols <DiscipleG@AOL.Com> Taylors, SC USA - We followed a yearning and got married while in Scotland 2 years ago, on spectacular Skye (luckily, before that crime of a bridge was finished!), in Portree 28 Oct. In fact, we now have a "5-10 year plan" to try to move to Scotland: please, anyone with info on the How-To's of becoming a resident of lovely, soul-enriching Scotland, please e-mail my husband Dave.
