The Art of the Bladesmith stretches back into pre-history. As man learned to work with metal, he developed the knife and the sword, both as tools and as means of defence. Dirks(small knifes used by highlanders) were often embossed with the Clan motif, this practice is carried on today at castle keep.

At Castle Keep I create blades in the tradition of centuries past, using hammer and fire and hard work. The blades are all heat treated and tempered to give the desired properties. For swords, that means a flexible and tough cutting blade; and for knives, the ability to take and hold a fine edge. I use modern grinding equipment in place of the stone wheel; but everything must still be finished by hand. There are no short cuts to a good blade.
