Adventure travel destination - The Isle of Skye

The Isle of Skye off the north-west coast of Scotland is the perfect destination for those seeking adventure travel holidays.  The jagged Cuillin mountains provide the most challenging climbs in the country and their chain of summits is recognized as the UK's finest ridge.  Elsewhere gentler hills provide the perfect location for walking and pony-trekking.  The coastline is immensely varied with sheer cliffs in many parts containing teeming seabird colonies and providing spectacular waterfalls.  The sheltered waters of the inland lochs and sea inlets contrast with the wild Atlantic that crashes onto the coast in more exposed places.  Skye's cultural heritage is a fascinating mix of Celtic and Norse traditions, kept very much alive by the present generation.  The variety of wildlife habitats on the island and in its surrounding waters enables it to support an astonishing range of plants, birds and other fauna, and the warming waters of the Gulf Stream keep the climate far milder than its latitude would suggest.
